Tension springs work on a different principle than torsion springs. The springs lie above the horizontal tracks and use a system of pulleys and cables to lift the door.
Please note that springs are non returnable and will only be sold according to the weight of the door. If you are unsure of the weight, please visit our Videos page for weighing a door to ensure you order the correct springs. Please note that, due to metal fatigue, springs wear out over time and it is highly inadvisable to re tension them. Rather replace them with new, correct ones. This task can also be extremely dangerous so rather get a trained professional to do this.
Please note the following regarding torsion springs:
- If the weight of the door is 140kg in total, you will need two 70kg springs so its best to order a pair with the weight spec of half the total door weight each.
- Tension springs are sold in pairs.
- When fitting your springs or any hardware, the red is on the left hand side and the black is on the right hand side.
- Your springs must be tensioned equally, if they are tensioned unevenly, they will combat each other and not work correctly.
- If your springs are worn or incorrectly tensioned, it may well cause damage to your motor, remember, the springs lift the door, the motor only tells the door where to go.
- Your tension springs require 2 sets of cables, a pair of tension lifting cables and a pair of tension safety cables.
